Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE (VAUGHAN) CHAMPAGNE April 28, 1914 - October 16, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie Champagne at the age of 95 on October 16, 2009 at her home in Lac du Bonnet. Elsie was born in Miami, Manitoba on April 28, 1914, the eldest daughter of Mary Ann and Lawrence Vaughan, and grew up in Pine Falls, Manitoba where her family moved when the new paper mill opened up. She often entertained her family with stories of the early years in Pine Falls and the antics of many residents. It was there that she met her husband, Frank, to whom she was married for 66 years. Frank and Elsie moved to Lac du Bonnet where they raised their family of seven children and lived for many years before moving to Alberta in 1968. Eventually, they returned to Lac du Bonnet where they spent their retirement years among family and old friends. Elsie will be forever remembered as a dedicated mother who had a creative spirit, a quick sense of humour, and always a pleasant word for all who came in contact with her. She was an avid reader, took great pleasure in craft making, as well as her extensive doll collection, and was the family historian. Elsie had a reputation among family for being a great cook who could make a gourmet meal out of leftovers and you could always count on a home cooked meal at mom's table. Elsie is survived by her children, Fern (Margaret), Dorothy Mosquin, Earl (Doreen), Raymond (Bernice), Dennis (Irene), Alan (Sheila) and Gary (Janine), 25 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, her husband Frank, brother Lou Rudge and his wife Effie, sister Margaret and her husband Ted Head, predeceased Elsie. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Bonny Vista Manor and the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home for your care and compassion for our mother over the last 10 years. We'd also like to thank the staff at Pinawa Hospital for their kindness and care during Elsie's brief illness. A celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour, Manitoba. If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Elsie's memory to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home, P.O. Box 1030, Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba R0E 1A0.
